Skin care tips from Xah Beauty, a vegan skin care brand from Geelong

Interview Skincare Vegan friendly

Babylon Grey existed because we want to inspire the world to learn more about self love, self care and self respect. As a brand; we knew our purpose is not to limit ourselves to only selling soaps. We are much bigger than just one thing; and we don’t want to be defined merely as vegan soap makers.

One of our favourite influencers… Or more so our mentor would be Jay Shetty. What he encourages and speaks to the society today resonates with us deeply. We as a team have always been quite spiritual and mindset and soul searching heavy. We truly believe that happiness and beauty radiates from inside out.

Now what we said is completely off topic to what skin care is all about. However, whom we are about to introduce you to someone who reminded us one of our favourite things Jay.

“We should be so focused on improving ourselves that we don’t have any energy to criticise anyone else”.

Eliza, an entrepreneur who is only 21 years old this year, started her dream Xah Beauty at age 19. An inspiration for everyone we must say. We are so blessed to have crossed path with an aspiring soul. She has a positive attitude who gets motivated from all perspectives. Hence why she reminded us the quote we mentioned.

You know how it is when a senior person who doesn’t take you seriously due to your age. That is exactly what Eliza experienced. When other businesses found out her age; even her suppliers didn’t take her seriously at first. She told us that they actually had motivated her to work even harder! Bless her soul. She has got her focus mindset on and her criticising energy out!

Age truly is just a number (unless you are a woman who wants to be a mum; then that’s another story…). We can’t wait for you to get to know about Xah Beauty. An organic and vegan skin care brand found by a Geelong born and raised sunshine, Eliza.

Eliza, tell us about the name Xah; what does it actually mean and how did the company come about?

The name Xah, pronounced as ‘Zah,’ which comes from the end of my name ‘Eliza.’ It’s funny though, because the name actually originated from my mum. Her name is Maree, but for some reason she goes by Molly. And then my brother and I started calling her Molza, and then it was eventually shortened to Zah, and it just stuck! So it’s a bit of a nickname for both of us. I thought using the X instead of the Z was a way to stand out a bit more, and give the brand a bit of edginess.

It is amazing how you find time to launch Xah Beauty as a full time Beauty Therapist. How do you manage your time and what does your daily routine look like?

More recently I have shortened my days at work to just 4. I found working the 5 days and trying to start up a brand wasn’t working out for me. I was putting too much pressure on myself, and felt completely burned out. As cliche as it sounds, it’s definitely not an easy road. Sometimes sacrifices with relationships, family and friends do need to be made. I’m a bit of a night owl, and get a lot of work done when I come home from my full time job. Sometimes working until the middle of the night, but you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do! I don’t have a set daily routine, in all honesty, I’m a bit all over the place, and don’t like to stick to set schedules. It’s just a matter of finding what works best for you.

As a Beauty Therapist, what would be your top skin care tips for all ages and all genders?

My top skincare tips are definitely to keep it simple, and not let it overwhelm you. There’s so much out there that can overwhelm us, that people often put Skincare into the too hard basket. I always tell people that if they’re not doing anything to their skin, start out with at least cleanse, exfoliation, and moisturise (plus SPF during the day)! People often look at moisturiser as a cure all, but if we’re not cleansing and exfoliating, you’re just going to continue adding more and more build up onto the skin. The products that you are applying aren’t going to absorb properly.

We find that most men don’t bother with skin care and don’t even have a self care routine! What are your thoughts on men skin care; and how do you find Xah Beauty to impact this dynamic?

There surprisingly, is still a negative stigma surrounding men in Beauty/Makeup/Skincare, which is completely absurd to me. I do have faith that as time goes on, more people are accepting men in the industry as the new normal. From a brand perspective, it was really important to create simple, minimalistic packaging, that both men and women would be drawn to. I definitely want to try and break down the barriers of Gender, Race and Religion in all aspects of my life, and plan on carrying that over into the business world as well. The only way for us as a society to move forward with the times, is to break down those barriers.

We have tried your Comedone Combat and we absolutely love it! Are you looking to expand Xah Beauty; if yes, when can we expect your next invention?

Thank you so much! I’ve constantly got lightbulb moments going off in my head, and am so eager to expand. At the moment I have already started working on our next product which I am so excited about. In time I would love to have a full range! As a consumer myself, I find it really overwhelming when brands pop out product after product. So I like to really take my time, and put as much love and energy into my projects as I can.

Lastly; if someone was to take you on a perfect outing; what would that involve?

Good question! I’m a bit of a homebody, so I’d love to just be in my pyjamas, sitting by the fire watching a good documentary, or The Office!

We are truly inspired by Eliza and we hope you are too. Not only because her passion for skin care shines through her work; but also her as a person who is determined, optimistic and ambitious.

If her story has empowered you; share it with your mates.
If her skin care journey has encouraged you to start looking after yourself, follow her.
Remember as Audrey Hepburn would say
“Beauty is being the best possible version of yourself, inside and out”.

Skin care products are the food which our bodies consume. If you don’t look after your skin correctly… How possible is it for you to see the your own beauty in the reflection of your mirror?
