Skincare routine | what should I be doing to my skin? 

There’ll always be new products or new “inventions” on how effective a skincare product can be. No matter how good a product is advertised; it does not benefit you if you yet to have a proper skincare routine.

What should my daily skincare regime be like? 

The basics of skincare go like this: cleanse, moisturise and apply sunscreen before heading outside (for all genders!). If you have the basic skin care covered, good on you. You are already a few steps ahead of many. Today we want you to further understand how important it is to have a proper skincare routine.

Why is understanding my skin type important? 

The foundation of all skin care products is more or less the same. However, there are particular treatment ingredients per each skin type. Understanding your skin type is the very first step to skin care. After all, we are all designed uniquely. 

In saying that, do bear in mind that all skin produces natural oil, even sensitive and dry skin types. Oily skin types, as you may have guessed already; just generates more. More importantly; men in general tend to have oilier skin due to testosterone. (Read here for our men’s skincare blog.) 

Morning skincare regime (for all genders) … 

  1. Cleanse your face with water-based cleanser when you wake up. Wash off the dead skin and oily layer. 
  2. Get that toner on. Remove any remaining oil or dirt that’s left behind and shirks your pores. 
  3. Apply serum before moisturiser. Serums are lightweight and are designed to repair our skin. It is packed with smaller active particles, which can effectively penetrate our skin. (Serums are ideal for all ages, but specifically for audiences over the age of 30. Generally, serums include antioxidants, which can assist in anti-ageing.) 
  4. Wait about three to five minutes for your serums to absorb. 
  5. Moisturise your beautiful face. Seal the hydration and keep your skin looking healthy. 
  6. Apply your sunscreen. Protect your skin from that dangerous UV rays. 

Nighttime skincare regime (for all genders) … 

  1. Cleanse your face with cleaning oil. Oil binds with dirt which means it will gently remove all the dirt you’ve collected during the day. (Massage your face while you are at it)! 
  2. Cleanse your face with water-based cleanser. Again, wash off the dead skin and oil. 
  3. Get that toner on. Again, remove any remaining oil or dirt that’s left behind and shirks your pores. 
  4. Don’t forget to put serum on before moisturiser. 
  5. Wait about three to five minutes for your serums to absorb. 
  6. Moisturise that beautiful face. Again, sealing the hydration your skin needs.  

Weekly nighttime skincare regime (two to three times a week, depending on your skin. Suitable for all genders) … 

  1. Cleanse your face with cleaning oil. 
  2. Cleanse your face with water-based cleanser. 
  3. Time to exfoliate. Exfoliation benefits anti-ageing and provides that instant glow look. It deep cleans and rubs off the dead skin cells. This will allow our skin to absorb the goods you’ll put on your skin more efficiently. 
  4. Get that toner on. 
  5. Face mask. Give your skin some extra love with a face mask. There are so many types of face masks: sheet masks, peel off masks, clay masks and more! Understand your skin type first before choosing what face mask to use; and don’t be afraid to just try it out! 
  6. Once again, apply serum before moisturiser. 
  7. The waiting game. Three to five minutes for your serums to absorb. 
  8. Moisturise that beautiful face. Always, always moisturise. Lock in all that goodness from the face mask and keep your skin hydrated! 

Perhaps you think you need eye cream, or maybe some anti-ageing treatment. As we mentioned before; understand your skin type first before you jump ahead. Remember to always apply eye cream or spot treatments before using apply moisturiser. Don’t forget to allow three to five minutes of wait time before moisturising your face. 

Despite all the products you think your skin needs; don’t forget that diet is very important too! Well, maybe that is another story for another time. 

Remember, Rome wasn’t built in one day. So, for you to rejuvenate your skin does take time. There’s nothing more important than self-care. If it takes 40 minutes to an hour of your day will help you have a healthier self, why not?
